Possessions and Purpose

Are you locked inside the thought that life consists in the abundance of your possessions? Do you want to accumulate one more car, boat, house, collectible, business, or zero on the end of your investment account?

Jesus warned: “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” (Luke 12:15).

Greed was my problem. I didn’t own the stuff. It owned me. Then the Restorer changed my heart.

As I surrendered sacred pieces of my life to Christ, God shaped my business into a ministry that sought to put people ahead of profit, relationship before remuneration, and ministry above my old greedy marketplace philosophy. I realized that I needed to give my resources to God, which would loosen my grip on money and achievement.

When I opened my tight-fisted heart, God blessed my life and made it possible for me to send those blessings out to help others. A clay heart enabled me to see business as a way to generously give back resources to God’s kingdom, multiplying His generous heart in others.

While I’m still a work in progress and far from perfect, I reflect and see the difference Christ has made in me. If there’s anything in your life that owns you, surrender it to Him, and He will make you new.
