Joy in Serving Our Unselfish Interests (Philippians 2:3-4)

Have you ever struggled with how to navigate through conflict when your personal interests are at stake?

The Apostle Paul, said that joy is discovered at the intersection of serving Christ’s interests, our unselfish interests, and the interests of others (Philippians 2:1-4). Let’s look at what it means to serve our unselfish interests.

Paul taught: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Philippians 2:3-4).

That’s right, it is acceptable to serve our own interests when they flow from a humble heart surrendered to Christ. An example is wisdom (Proverbs 1:7; 9:10). Solomon confirmed, “He who gets wisdom loves his own soul” (Proverbs 19:8).

This week, unselfishly seek a balanced budget, health, good relationships, and growth in wisdom. Solicit a friend to help you in an area of need. Meet once a week to discuss your progress. You will discover joy in serving.
