CUTE GIRLS MADE: Expression of God, Part 1 (Genesis 1:26; 2:7)

You are the expression of God: “Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness'” (Genesis 1:26). This expression comes from the breath of The Almighty: “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being” (Genesis 2:7). In the original Hebrew, that breath of life suggests a continual inhaling and exhaling. Consequently, God did not merely breathe life into mankind one time and walk away. Rather, He continues to inhale and exhale through His creation. When we surrender our hearts to Him, our lives become the breath of God to every person we encounter.

Three spiritual pursuits allow us to inhale the breath of God each morning: worship, Word, and workout. First, we worship God by listening to a style of worship music that speaks to our heart. Music affects the central nervous system, but worship music breathes life into the soul. As we listen, we can pray to God, praising Him for Who He is and thanking Him for forgiving us. Second, we inhale the Word, beginning each morning by reading at least one verse from the Bible. We breathe in and live the day through the oxygen it provides. Third, we can start our day with a workout. Whether it be walking one hundred steps amidst God’s creation or training for a marathon, we release the norepinephrine and endorphins in our body that offer a relaxed energy throughout our day (see 1 Timothy 4:8). We might even do all three at the same time by listening to worship music while reading the Bible and climbing on the elliptical machine.

Make an appointment with God every morning to inhale His breath of life. Bend the knees of your heart to Him by listening to worship music, praying, reading a passage in the Bible, and working out. The fresh wind of His Spirit will energize you with joy for every circumstance.
