3 Connections of Life: Others Connect with God in Christ (1 John 1:2)

As with a 120-volt electrical outlet in the United States, God has designed three connections with us to consider each day. The right vertical slot is the hot, or live, wire where the electricity flows into what is plugged in to the outlet, a picture of God first connecting with us in Christ and providing us the electricity of the Holy Spirit (1 John 1:1). Second, an electrical current flows through the prongs and cord to an appliance back to the left vertical outlet, which is the neutral slot. In the same manner, the Holy Spirit flows through us to those we encounter (1 John 1:2). Third, they connect with God in Christ: “We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ” (1 John 1:3).

When someone RSVPs yes to God’s invitation in Christ, they experience their ultimate design to be in communion with Him and in community with other believers in Christ. The round opening at the bottom of an electrical outlet is the ground. It provides safety and security, so people who use metal appliances do not get shocked. The ground wire keeps them alive. Similarly, when we connect with others in Christ, they connect with God the Author of eternal and abundant life.

Each day look for opportunities with those you encounter to be LIGHT: Link them to a loving community. Illuminate God’s story in theirs. Guide them to their heart condition of choosing life apart from God. Help them understand surrender. Tie it all together, so they will be LIGHT to everyone they meet. God will use you to transform lives as He shapes your heart to be like His.
