A Spiritual House Connects with the Living Cornerstone (1 Peter 2:9-10)

You are a priest in God’s temple, His spiritual house, that builds, aligns, and connects each living stone with the Living Cornerstone, the first and foremost stone in the construction of any building. In the Kingdom of Christ, Jesus is that Living Cornerstone, and we are the living stones who build, align, and connect our lives with His.

We are designed to connect with Christ in order to connect with others, so that they connect with Him: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1 Peter 2:9). Peter and other New Testament writers call Gentile Christians by the titles God gave Israel in the desert: a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special treasured possession; meaning there is one covenant between God and man, not two (Exodus 19:5-6; Revelation 1:6; 5:10). Jesus Christ initiates, mediates, and guarantees this covenant so that we will worship the One who called us from a life enslaved to sin to a living, vibrant relationship with the God of the Universe where we evangelize and disciple others to the life found only in Christ.

A spiritual house is not merely a house of worship, rather it is a house of worship evangelism: “Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God, once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy” (1 Peter 2:10). Because we have received less than we deserve due to our sin against a Holy God, we are called to issue that same mercy in our relationships. We evangelize by living out the undeserved love of God in every encounter.

Live like a priest. Connect with the Holy Spirit 24/7 in order to connect everyone in your life with Christ. Make a list of those in close proximity to you who have not surrendered to Jesus as Lord and Savior. Begin to pray for them every day. Make your muscles move with your prayers by investing in their lives, irrespective of whether they eventually surrender their lives to Christ. Simply love them. Then when the Spirit prompts you, ask them if they would like to become a priest.
